Creating a Windows XP/Server2003 bootable flash drive

Flash drive 256MB+ (I used a 512MB Lexar JumpDrive)

One of the following Windows installation CD's:
- Windows XP Home Edition (must be slip streamed with Service Pack 1 or higher)
- Windows XP Professional (must be slip streamed with Service Pack 1 or higher) (I used with Service Pack 2)
- Windows Server 2003, Web Edition
- Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition
- Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
PE Builder v3.1.10a self installing package - found here http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/download/
PeToUSB v3.0.0.7.zip - found here http://gocoding.com/page.php?al=petousb
A Motherboard that can boot off USB

Install PE Builder (use default installation options)
Insert your Windows Installation CD into your CD Drive
Open PE Builder
Under Builder set "Source: (path to windows installation files)" to your CD drive
Make sure "Output: (c:\pebuilder3110a\BartPE)" is set to "BartPE"
Set "Media Output" to "None"
Click "Build" and the files will be built (this may take awhile)
Exit BartPE
Extract PeToUSB3.0.0.7
Open PeToUSB.exe
Set "Destination Drive:" to "USB Removable"
Find your USB disk in the pull down menu
Check "Enable Disk Format", "Quick Format"
Set "Source Path To Built BartPE/WinPE Files:" to "C:\pebuilder3110a\BartPE"
Check "Enable File Copy" and choose "Overwrite Always" on the drop down menu
Click start (okay the messages and off it goes…. also may take a while)
There you go you now have a bootable version of windows on a flash drive.

Plug flash drive in USB slot
Start computer
Enter BIOS
Set your boot order so that the USB boots first, before your hard drives, CD-ROMs and Floppy Drives
And it should into BartPE
