These subtitles play fine via mplayer along with the movie. I've tried to select 'subtitles' as a filter as instructed in other posts. I've made sure that the color of the subs is easily seen, they aren't hidden from view and yet they don't show up on either the encoded output or when I click on PREVIEW OUTPUT.I am probably doing or not doing something stupid but dunno what. Yes the V PROCESS option is selected and yes the subtitle filter is the last one selected (should this matter)?I just can't figure it out.Help would be most welcome.Thanks/

They work fine, they play fine but I just cannot get AVIDEMUX to hardcode them onto the MPG I'm trying to make.Tell me if this is NOT the correct way to do things:-load the filesort the audio filters (shouldnt affect subs in anyway)click on V Filter, select SVCD resolution, crop to remove all or some of the borders, then select subtiltes.ensure the subtitle lines are in the actual frame of output and a visible colour.ensure the V Process is clickedsave as MPEG.This gives me NO hardcoded subs. If you see the sub when previewing, it should be on the final file. It uses exactly the same filter chain.

I have to say sorry for having wasted your time a little on this. As is often the case, the simplest answer is usually the one to go with.It occurred to me that I hadn't even checked to see whether the defualt directory used by AVIDEMUX for subtitles actually existed on my pc. Guess what? It doesn't. All I had to do to finally get subs working was to point the program to where I had a bunch of *.ttf font files /usr/share/fonts/ in my case. So it seems that there never was a problem with the subs - it was just that the program was looking in a wrong place for the font when asked to encode.
