I'm pretty much a novice, but I found that my life with respect to sound in RH 8.0 got a lot easier when I disabled ARTS from starting in KDE. Instead, I "play" my system event sounds with the 'play' command, and run OSS for XMMS player. That seems to work well.

well, However I play sound, the result is the same. The "Pcm" slider on the mixer does not lower the volume. It just shuts it off once at 0. The master volume works fine and the mute button works as well. The soundcard is recognized fine and everything else works the way it should (as far as I can tell). Just that one channel on the mixer (wich by the way is the same Xmms adjusts when changing the volume there) is oddly enought not working…
I don't know where to look anymore Plz help someone

On RedHat 8.0 changing the volume in kmix or aumix for the "pcm channel" doesn't change the volume at all, it does shut it off once at 0%.
It does this while going through arts or OSS, using xmms or any other player. I'm stopmed, any pointers anyone?

I'm using onboar sound on the ECS motherboard K7S5A wich has a SiS 7012 PCI for sound the system seems to be using the right drivers, I searched the web for this problem and didn't find anything about just one channel on the mixer not working. What I found on this sound chip seems to have been resolved with new kernels and it was always about the sound not working at all.
I've been going nuts trying to find the solution to this one for days without success, does anyone have the same problem? anyone using the same motherboard without a problem? any pointers? hints? help! please?
